Inservice is fun

I'm sitting here in the empty room 76. So far I have loaded about two dozen or so blogs. McCain has just announced his Vice Presidential running mate. Interesting choice. I wonder how this will play with Americans....
I responded to a couple student blogs. I should give a prize for the best entry...perhaps gum. I could give away gum.
There were two hummingbirds at the feeder this morning.

Did you hear about the butcher who backed into his meat grinder? He got a little behind in his work. That's how I feel.
I arrived at school to 19 emails. About 10 of them were from students who have mailed me their blogs. The rest were things of little value to me. The hummingbirds were back yesterday. I can see why bird watchers get so excited about see rare species of birds. No school for the kids tomorrow. I have inservice though at the present time, I don't know what I'll be doing.
I have a bunch of plans for the weekend. We have a picnic on Saturday and another on Sunday. The Sunday one is family. My brother and his family and their families and my sisters and theirs. I guess there will be quite a few people. Both my mom and dad are gone, so for us to get together is something that we have to put together. While my dad was still living, we used to congregate at his place on holidays, but it was December ten years ago that he died. Now, my older brother and sister have grandchildren of their own. Both of my brother's kids have two children each, and my older sister's oldest daughter has a little girl.
Enough of my ramblings.

I didn't do much terribly interesting last night. I did see the hummingbird again, though I have no way of knowing if there is one or more than one. The Phillies came from seven runs behind to beat the Mets and take a half game lead in the NL East. Jamie Moyer looked awful. The were hitting everything he was throwing.
Today is the third day of school. It's tiring when you aren't used to the schedule. This Friday is the home football game. Penn State plays Coastal Carolina this weekend. Come on...Coastal Carolina? I didn't know they had a team.

I am trying to get the classes to create blogs today. The purpose of this is for the students to be able to save paper and journal online. I expect to be able to check these at least every week. I am not terribly computer savvy so this is an adventure, just like Costa Rica was an adventure. Last night I went for a walk and when I got home, a hummingbird was at the feeder. Cool.
It's a bit later. I ate lunch. I don't like eating this early because when I go home I am hungry again.
Walking through the cemetary is weird. You see all sorts of tombstones from ages ago and you wonder if those people have relatives who come and visit them, not them I guess, but their gravesites. I'm getting depressed now. Let's think happy thoughts.
LONG WEEKEND!
I love Sunday nights when there's no school Mondays....you can stay up late and eat popcorn. Once in college I got a piece of popcorn stuck in the back of my last molar and that sucker made my whole face swell up. I went to the dentist and he popped it and gross stuff ooooooozed out.
I'm not making this up.
My wife wants another dog.

August 25, 2008

Just got done with the first day of school. I must say, it's overwhelming at times because no matter how may first days there are, they are always different and you never quite know what to expect. My classes seem great. It's hard to believe that I started here back in 1987. I think I finally have the children of someone I had in class. That's old.

Heard from Megan today. Her classes are working out well and was assured that she will be graduation in May of 09. I hope her internships work out so that she can finish her last semester here at home. I know that's what she wants.

Her roomie is leaving and she's not unhappy about that. She will be living alone for awhile. I guess I should visit Florida more frequently...Ha.

I hope some of you take the opportunity to post and reply to my posts.

Have a great school year.
