I'm sitting here waiting for period 11 to show. It's lunch but it's later because of the extended homeroom. I must like things pretty standard because all these different times are confusing, even for someone of my advanced age.

I was thinking earlier about the conversion to digital cable from analog and how many elderly people were just content to have their rabbit ear antenna and get a couple channels, and now they are forced to buy conversion boxes or subscribe to cable. It's not cheap and people on fixed incomes have to watch their money carefully, though who among us doesn't?

Have a great weekend.

Late start today. No school yesterday. Still, I feel like a nap. Why?

I opened a facebook. I've been in touch with people I haven't seen in 20-30 years. It's amazing. High School friends. College friends.

Where did January go?

While it snowed yesterday and I scraped ice, I found lifeguard shows from Hawaii and I wanted to be there, not drowning or bleeding or anything like that, just there, in Hawaii, warm.

I sometimes wonder how weathermen ever expect to be taken seriously. I mean, who among is wasn't expecting to wake up to a dusting of snow, perhaps an inch, and perhaps a late start. I hate late starts. I hate missing school.

Today we began discussion of controversial issues in argument. I think we got the worst out of the way. Hopefully anyway.

Kids love the laptops, but not for the reason they should. They love being able to open many windows and to hide the games they are playing. I haven't posted any pictures lately. I should do more of that but I don't really want to waste too much time doing that.

Good luck Lady Vikings and Vikings tonight.

Do you ever forget your passwords? It's frustrating at times but I think we all have at one time or another. I have a couple that I keep going, maybe four. Not much going on. The mechanic and the plumber are done. Not so bad though I didn't get the bill from the plumber yet. Mondays in January are tough. It's amazing how far along we are already in the year. We are over half way home. Home being the end of the year.
What kind of car do you drive? What is your favorite car? Someone asked me that today. I need a new muffler.
There is snow in the forecast once again. It looks like it will start tomorrow after we get here and then continue into Wednesday with a possible accumulation of 3-8 inches, depending on which forecast you believe.

Some random thoughts. New president. New semester. New schedule. New York. New Jersey. New England.

Plumber and mechanic at work today on things I own. Could be expensive.

Cold.

Root canals. They aren't fun though this one wasn't nearly as bad as the first one I had 30 years ago. That one really wasn't pleasant. This one was mostly marked by having to hold my mouth open for nearly an hour and being unable to swallow, beginning to thing about having to cough but knowing that wasn't going to have a good end to it. The tooth was dead. Sadly. I wish I had pictures to post of the process. You'd all love it.

Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it?—every, every minute?

Emily from Our Town

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

My 100th post.
It's cold outside. Kids are taking midterms today. Not mine, but others. I hear the moaning and groaning.
We are watching Our Town, by Thornton Wilder. It's a classic.
Advice to the groom. "Never tell your wife how much money you have."
Is it bad luck to see the bride on your wedding day?
Life does go quickly. The passage of time, that's one of the themes in Our Town. Then what?

The snowfall forecast for the weekend was somewhat less than expected. Saturday afternoon was the worst day for travel, but the roads weren't impassible.
The Eagles defeated the Giants yesterday to be one win away from the Superbowl. Who would have thought a few weeks ago that they had any chance of even making the play-offs, and now, here they are on the doorstep of matching the Phillies' improbably World Series Championship. Go Eagles.
I will grant my Pittsburgh fans that the Steelers did look pretty good yesterday, though SD didn't put up much of a fight. Three of the four remaining teams are from the area. I think that if the Eagles and Steelers would make the Superbowl, they should move it from Tampa to Fredericksburg, here at Frederick L. Gahres Stadium.

I am approaching my 100th post. Wow! The forecast is for substantial snowfall late tonight through tomorrow. In many ways, I dread the snow, but we have no real plans and so we don't have to worry about getting somewhere. Sunday morning could be interesting but we'll deal with that Sunday morning.
Eagles and Giants this weekend. Loser goes (or stays) home.
Have a great weekend all of you who read this!

podbeans. This is something new I'm learning here at York Vo Tech today. You are in school and I am blogging while sitting in a session on the creation of blogs. Apparently, Podbean is a site, free, where you can make podcasts. I know what they are but I've never made one. Be good for the substitute. Work on your work. Play on your play. Work on your play and play on your work. Thats for the definition of watching. You know who you are.

Some people are following my posts. I don't know what that means, but Hi! Here are some rules to live by.

Don't wear tight clothing. They are uncomfortable and often unflattering.
Don't text in front of your teachers. It's disrespectful.
Wear your seatbelts. It's the law.
Take your time. The journey is half the fun.
Read everything you can. The older you get, the more you'll realize how little you know.
Say please and thank you. Manners are a lost art.
Don't take steroids.
All things in moderation.
Don't use the word like all the time. It's a verb or preposition. Like, not a like an adjective, adverb, interjection or like conjunction.
So next year will you say twenty ten or two thousand ten. I think this needs formal debate. Pizza for dinner. Gotta love it.

Today is Megan's birthday. Megan is my daughter and she is 23 today. Wow! I'm getting old. So my vacation went really fast. I made a trip back and forth to Florida. My inlaws went along and enjoyed themselves. We saw little alligators. Little means four feet long or less. The temp as about 80 most days, and I was able to wear shorts. I forgot a couple things in the fridge. Not good.

Happy New Year

Silly expression, Happy New Year. I mean what else can you say? It's Friday the second. I got a new set of tires and a new battery for my car. It's good for another million miles. I wonder what the world record is for the most mileage on a car is? I know some of the taxis in the big cities do well over a million miles. I saw small alligators in Florida. The Eagles won on Sunday and play this weekend to advance further into the play offs. Penn State looked pretty average against USC. Sitting here, watching the Rose Bowl, I have to ask, given the opportunity, who wouldn't want to go to school in Southern California. The climate is always lovely. As the commentators suggested, if you are on the football team, you are a star. I was over at the girls' game a bit ago. We were leading, but my back just can't take those bleachers like they used to. Two thousand and nine. Wow! Where has the time gone?
