Sara Gilbert got engaged. This is a headline. To a female rocker. So this is news. And it dawned on me that because we have instant access to all the news all the time, we need to have something to fill the news all the time. So Sara Gilbert got engaged. A headline.
Sara Gilbert appeared on Rosanne at least a decade ago. But this is a headline. I guess in the ironic world I live in, the fact that I am sitting here creating a blog entry about Sara Gilbert is equally silly as who cares about what I write, an English teacher in central Pennsylvania, about what is news.
Today was the day I receive a paper paper. The Patriot News is now published three times a week. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. I pay dearly for it. After this year, probably not. Anyway, someone, don't recall her name, is a blogger about family things, raising kids, etc. That's listed under her bio. A blogger. What the heck. I'm a blogger. I'm sitting here blogging. But I wouldn't tell anyone I'm a blogger.
If people don't pay to read this, it's simply random rantings from a bored not so middle aged cynic. I'm not a blogger.

I haven't posted in quite some time. Well over a year and a half. So much has changed since I last posted. I've become a grandfather twice. I am that much close to retirement. It's funny. I often refer to my retirement as graduation. Like I'll finally graduate from high school. I'm actually working on a new computer. Read. It's the greated thing.

new school year
the beginning of the a school year is always hard. i don't get too worked up about it or anything, but there always seems to be a lot going on. that is compounded by the fact that i also coach golf, and that is time consuming. it's raining today. i don't think we'll have practice. but that's another story for later in the day.

Dehydration
I was clipping coupons this morning, yes, I do that occasionally, and an ad for bottled water, bottled water is a whole other topic, said that 64% of kids go to school dehydrated. Ok, now I have to ask, how do they know this. Seriously, where in the world does that statistic some from? I am from a generation of dehydrated people. If you stopped playing something to get a drink, you were considered a wimp. We didn't get drinks. I just don't understand all this dehydration talk. The brain needs water to think. Sure it does, but I don't ever remember drinking water when I was a kids. We drank milk, soda (occasionally) and ice tea. But really, we mostly drank milk, yet we weren't the obese generation. You would think that we would have been dropping like flies...
that's my vent for today.
Oh, and by the way, don't drink that water in plastic bottles. It's such a waste. Tap water or filtered water is just fine.

Final Days of School.
I'm often critical of people who start blogs and then don't keep them updated, so I guess it's time to be critical of myself. Blog you idiot.
We are down to single digits. School days that is. My wife, Stephanie, is leaving the school to take another job at Hershey Medical Center. I think she'll be happy there. I hope so. She'll be working some interesting hours.
I, on the other hand, am still here. I'll be here next year and the next and the next and the next. I think that might be it barring some extreme change in circumstances.
I've come out of retirement to play softball for the church. I am not what I used to be or what I once was. Does that say the same thing. I recall writing about cooper. Cooper turned two this week. We didn't have any celebration. Nothing really could be done, because truly, the term "dog's life" applies to him. What does he do? He lies around all day. He eats and drinks whenever he wants. He has no responsibilities other than lifting our spirits at the end of a long day, licking our faces, making us feel loved, but he does that without effort.
I have to give this year a C+. I wish it would be higher, but during the middle of the year, I took over for Ms. Hamilton, who left to go home to Cape May, NJ, and teach at her old high school. There was some shifting of classes and I didn't really get to know my seniors. By the time I got them, the AP kids that is, they seemed to be suffering from a severe case of senioritis. As of this moment, that is an incurable disease. Anyway, the girl who replaced her, Mrs. Voshell, is wonderful, and I'm pleased to note that she has been given the job permanently. My big decision now is whether or not I want to switch rooms.
The talent show is today.
